Executive Vice President, Agency Operations-Detroit, MI

This position is so all-encompassing that monikers like Sales and Marketing Leader, General Manager and Operations Officer could very easily follow this position’s Executive Vice President header.  This is a newly create role for an independent agency positioning itself for future growth through the addition of an experienced insurance executive.  Success in this position is determined when the agency achieves its growth and profitability goals through the big and little projects a great behind-the-scenes leader tackles.  In this role you’ll manage the agency’s administration, finances and all other units underneath the operations banner as well as branding, marketing and be closely tied to the sales team.

Executive Vice President, Agency Operations Responsibilities:
  • Operations: Ensure the effective running of the firm on all day-to-day matters; establish standard processes and procedures, wherever possible integrate automation techniques, make IT and management systems decisions, work with outside partners (vendors, legal counsel, etc.) and create operational plans and strategies for each profit center.  Handle audits, budget creation and compliance.
  • Sales and  Marketing: An extension of outside relations you’ll work closely with property and casualty underwriting partners; negotiate contracts, track contingencies, analyze premium allocation/loss ratios/revenue generation by market, schedule meetings and visits with key partners and coordinate company outreach/community events to establish the company’s brand. In terms of sales leadership its important you understand how an agency blends investments hires with acquisitions and how it promotes book of business growth through sales development strategies, value added resources and training.  Some of these projects directly related to sales management instead of the other executives who are personally involved in sales.
  • Human Resources: Develop and maintain a sophisticated, knowledgeable business development and customer service staff; handle recruiting and new position development; establish protocol for staff training, development and performance reviews; handle compensation, bonus programs, time off, etc. Build programs to ensure high employee morale and retention.

Executive Vice President, Agency Operations Requirements:
  • At least 10-15 years of career experience in property and casualty insurance with significant exposure to agency sales, marketing and/or management.  Commercial product knowledge is crucial because of the agency’s concentration in property and casualty.
  • You must be a sophisticated strategist who can help the firm outline, define and achieve its 3, 5 and 10 year growth goals with a watchful eye on how that’s influenced through new business sales, efficiency, customer service and carrier relationships.  Preference will be given to candidates who have held a leadership position within an agency or brokerage.
  • Qualified individuals must have exposure to several parts of insurance leadership including strategies to improve processes, personnel development, Human Resources and budget creation.
