This position, Vice President, Employee Benefits Operations, is a very unique role designed to support the depth and complexity required of business in today’s market to be competitive writing life and health insurance. It means having creative and innovative leaders that can recreate sales success, manage markets and be on top of client deliverables that direct tie back to retention. A person in this role will need to have a strong working history in the group life and health market with leadership experience tied to sales performance, service and marketing management.
Vice President, Employee Benefits Operations Responsibilities:
- Client Service and Marketing: Spend significant time working on and interacting with the account management teams (and in many instances directly with insureds) to understand the insurance market as it affects their premiums, claims and program access. Maintain existing carrier relationships, expand existing business through the identification of fee based/consulting opportunities, alternative arrangements (exchanges and trusts) and cross selling initiatives with sales and other product teams. Additionally, marketing includes involvement in industry branding; create a visibility of the company’s work in the health insurance space; participate in key professional organizations and stay abreast of factors concerning the Affordable Care Act.
- Operations and Management: Handle recruiting and training protocol for client service and marketing staff; identify additional positions that are critical to a sophisticated health risk management staff. Train and develop staff to satisfy service expectations, compliance and reporting requirements. Provide strategic and tactical support to staff; ensure performance and development plans are in place; meet regularly with executives, sales leaders and supervisors for timely feedback on improvements, changes and performance within the company’s benefits division.
- Leadership: Communicate with the executive leadership team regarding goals, results and profitability. Participate in the acquisition of new clients and selling additional services and/or products to existing clients. Manage expenses to maximize profits.
Vice President, Employee Benefits Operations Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree is preferred; advanced education or professional insurance accreditation is highly desired. State insurance license.
- At least 7-10 years of life and health insurance experience; must have an established management background involving operational leadership. Marketing, staff development and program innovation are critical components to this role. Product expertise in group medical is most desirable.
- Success in managing client relationships and supervising, coaching and mentoring others.
