Senior Claims Specialist, Transportation-Cedar Rapids, IA

An experienced claims specialist is a critical bridge between the insured and the insurance company during an often difficult and stressful time.  Designed to provide advocacy during the claims process, this person helps set expectations, ensures a smooth flow of communication, troubleshoots issues and provides important technical insight into claims.  Advocacy also means working to educate clients outside of the claims process on efficiently reporting claims and handling agreements. This role will focus on transportation related claims and the unique factors involved in coverage and regulations for this industry.

Senior Claims Specialist, Transportation Responsibilities:

  • Work directly with insureds during the claims reporting process.  Help gather information, review policy coverage, respond to insurance company inquiries and negotiate settlements.  Maintain accurate records, prepare status reports and provide claims narratives on complex and high reserves.
  • Review case files and help prepare for renewals by reviewing loss reserves, claims history and gathering updated information from clients on claims procedures. Help educate insureds on potentially problematic claims, help identify areas with coverage gaps and provide procedural advice.  As needed coordinate claims management meetings between the insured and insurance company.
  • Take steps to remain informed on changes to coverage, policies and even compliance matters related to transportation insurance claims.  Attend continuing education claims and pursue claims designations.

Senior Claims Specialist, Transportation Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience; at least five (5) years of claims adjusting experience with an insurance company, retail agency, TPA or self-insured business.
  • Specific experience handling trucking related claims is ideal, but more so the ability to learn the nuances of those case files because of an established foundation handling commercial auto or commercial property and casualty claims.
  • Strong attention to detail and account management skills with the ability to stay organized and on task; excellent communication skills dealing directly with insureds as an advisor and advocating on their behalf by being able to negotiate with insurance companies and set expectations for all parties involved as to the potential outcomes.
