Our client is a large independent insurance agency with offices in both Dallas and Ft. Worth. They are interested in expanding their personal lines division into Ft. Worth with the addition of a sales oriented professional to sell personal lines insurance. The agency can provide a number of resources to be successful in this transition, from partnership with the commercial lines producers to training in sales techniques and special insurance coverages. This is an opportunity for someone with a few years of insurance experience who is interested in taking on more new business sales responsibilities, or an individual already working in sales but is curious about what career opportunities in insurance.
Personal Lines Business Development Responsibilities:
- Identify new sales opportunities, call on those prospects and work closely with them through the quoting and insurance placement phases. You’ll be actively involved in securing the quotes either through insurance companies with online rating platforms or by submitting accounts to underwriters requesting the coverage and pricing your account needs.
- Write proposals with those quotes and advise candidates on appropriate policies to meet their personal lines exposures, i.e. homeowners, auto and umbrella. Some of these clients will be considered high net worth or affluent meaning you’ll also work with secondary homes, recreational vehicles and fine arts/jewelry/collectibles.
- Participate in sales meetings with the agency’s commercial agents. Help them to understand where opportunities exist in those clients to sell personal lines policies. Go out on calls with them and discuss personal lines programs face-to-face with clients.
- Work closely with the current personal lines team to make sure renewals are being taken care of, new business goals are being met, the team has representation at appropriate industry events and that all marketing avenues are being explored (cold calling, direct mailings, advertising and internal cross selling).
Personal Lines Business Development Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree is required.
- At least two years (2) of professional career experience. Client management or hybrid sales and service within the insurance industry handling package small business and/or personal lines policies is most preferable. Candidates from outside the insurance industry will be considered based on whether their current sales approach would translate into insurance sales.
- Outgoing, upbeat personality with the desire to sell and work under sales goals. Though this is a salaried position you must be comfortable meeting production standards. In doing so that’s when higher earnings are achieved.
