Commercial Excess Claims Examiner-New York, NY

Our client is a reinsurer with worldwide operations. They currently offer an opportunity to join their company in their claims department in New York City. We need a claims professional with high layer (excess of $50,000,000) casualty or property excess insurance claims experience. This is not a reinsurance claims position (even though our client is a reinsurance company).

Commercial Excess Claims Examiner Responsibilities:
  • Oversee or manage the handling of high excess insurance and reinsurance property/casualty claims from cedents or SIRs to obtain the facts associated with a loss and verify the contractual obligation to verify and dispose of a loss, including a cedent’s/SIR’s obligation to pay.
  • Identify and provide recommendations on coverage, reserves, settlement, and contract language.
  • Analyze loss and expense trends on a portfolio of claims and assist in the development and implementation of plans to improve results.
  • Maintain a high level of claim and industry related expertise in order to assure technical competency and communicate to team members regarding significant issues and relevant changes.

Commercial Excess Claims Examiner Requirements:
  • BA/BS degree or equivalent is required.
  • At least 5 years of property/casualty insurance and 1 year of reinsurance claims experience.
  • High layer (excess of $50,000,000) casualty or property excess insurance claims experience.
  • Specifically, the candidate needs to have the ability to work with/organize the insurers’ market either as an insurer or co-insurer for best outcomes; pursue and then assess underlying policy limit/SIR’s annual aggregate incurred information for reserving and individual claim handling purposes, audit underlying claim files, etc.
  • Demonstrate technical competence managing and evaluating property/casualty claims.
  • Demonstrate a customer focus displaying a sense of urgency when dealing with internal and external customer issues, insight into customer needs and performance to meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Identify adverse claims trends and develop tactical plans to increase profitability.
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
