For over a 100 years our client has come to stand for excellence through steady growth and financial stability. They have been rated A (Excellent) or better by A.M. Best. Their specialty division focuses on market segments and situations many other carriers don’t want to insure. These include child care centers, beauty salons, fitness centers, YMCAs, and pest control companies. This specialty division currently offers an opportunity to join their underwriting team in a leadership position.

Commercial Lines Underwriting Manager Responsibilities:
  • Develop and continually improve the underwriting quality and marketing talents of underwriting team including underwriters, associate underwriters and assistant underwriters.
  • Conduct file review and re-underwriting projects.
  • Develop the underwriting staff and attain underwriting profit and written premium goals.
  • Handle accounts exceeding underwriter authority.
  • Effectively deliver leadership initiatives.
  • Responsible for the selection and training of new associates in the department, as well as all supervisory activity for the assigned group, including performance management, salary administration and career development plans.

Commercial Lines Underwriting Manager Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Insurance or related field
  • Completion of Associate in Underwriting program and CPCU designation
  • 5 to7 or more years of experience in commercial middle market underwriting
  • 2 to 3 or more years in underwriting leadership with proven leadership skills, with the ability to coach, mentor and develop others
  • Analytical skills
  • Verbal and written communication skills

Life Underwriting Manager-Phoenix, AZ

Our client was founded over a century ago with an important mission: making financial security and independence a reality for their customer. They offer a wide variety of insurance products, including: Whole life insurance, Term life insurance, Universal life, and Annuities. They are strong financially has demonstrated by their “Excellent” rating by AM Best. They presently offer an opportunity to join their organization as the Underwriting Manager in their Phoenix, AZ area office.
Life Underwriting Manager Responsibilities:
  • Manages the underwriting function to ensure effective solicitation, selection, pricing and retention of desirable business. Ability to provide timely and accurate feedback to underwriters for accurate risk assessment.
  • Reviews second approval cases up to $10 Million with 98% accuracy.
  • Conducts work assessment to ensure service and productivity goals and standards are met for team assigned.
  • Monitors quality assurance and performs quality control reviews of risk assessment, reinsurance treaty compliance, and risk assessment calls.
  • Mentors employees to reach operational goals and developmental plans; providing training and educational opportunities for growth.
  • Building Customer/ Agent Relationships. Handling complaints to resolution, conducting proactive calls, communicating confidence in business and service.
  • Resource for other departments regarding Underwriting.
  • Conducts research and analysis to stay current on industry activity and underwriting advancements/changes relating to RNA‘s business.

Life Underwriting Manager Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5 years+ working at a management level and 7 years+ Life Underwriter experience.
  • LOMA, ALU course work and/or designations.
  • Recommended professional designations: FLMI, FALU.
  • Excellent computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft application suite.

Group Life and Disability Underwriting Manager - Salt Lake City, UT


Our client is a successful and growing firm that fills a critical need in the disability, life and medical professional liability space. Over the years the company has developed proprietary insurance products and programs designed specifically for physicians groups. This position, Group Underwriting Manager, is responsible for managing the group benefits underwriting program and team which underwrites a nationwide portfolio of Long Term Disability, Short Term Disability and Life products.  In addition, the position is accountable for performance management, developing staff and fostering a positive business team environment, and is also accountable for the overall performance level and timely delivery of their team’s rating, underwriting and reporting activities.  



Group Underwriting Manager Responsibilities:
Work with COO to ensure that division’s underwriting priorities are in alignment with total company direction.
Oversee benefit products such as disability insurance, life insurance and other products underwriting guidelines.
Contributes to the development and implementation of underwriting guidelines, strategies, special analyses, reporting capabilities and reviews of rating practices and product offerings that ensure fiscally responsible, market competitive pricing.
Ensures that the best customer service is provided to the company’s internal and external customers and achieves the company goals that contribute to meeting corporate objectives.
Analyzes market trends and continually reviews the rating practices and product offerings of the competition through exposure to their proposal bids and maintains contact with the broker/consultant community.

Group Underwriting Manager Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree is preferred with about 7-15 years of group underwriting career experience.
Work with group disability products is highly important to this position.
At least five (5) years of management tenure with the ability to motivate teams, coach and mentor underwriters and building interdepartmental relationships.

AVP, Specialty Transportation Business Responsibilities:
Provide overall leadership and assume P&L accountability for specialty business.

Wholesale/MGA Personal Lines Sales Director
Our client is a nationally recognized wholesale broker that is progressive in its advancement of specialty product offerings.  This position, Personal Lines Sales Director, will develop and oversee the standard lines personal lines program.  This is a tremendous opportunity to take an active role in the ground floor creation of a program that builds upon an existing non-standard platform.

Personal Lines Sales Director Responsibilities:
Create the company's branding of this program line; engage internal resources capitalizing on a profitable non-standard personal lines practice.
Build new carrier relationships with standard markets interested in developing a brokerage distribution platform.
Participate in the complete cycle of program development from determining product offering and pricing to distribution methods and marketing strategies to retail agencies.
Look at strategic market access, from new carrier relations to acquisition of wholesale operations with a footprint to support geographic expansion.

Personal Lines Sales Director Qualifications:
At least ten (10) years of progressive experience within personal lines insurance.
Sales, marketing, program development and new product distribution experience.
Strategic vision and strong sales acumen with an emphasis on building relationships with multiple insurance carriers.
Prior experience in the E&S or wholesale markets is a plus.

Our client is a top ten MGA/Wholesale Broker that is seeking a branch manager to run their Nashville office.  This is a great opportunity for someone with a very strong management background that has wholesale experience.   The job will have P & L responsibilities as well as production responsibilities.

MGA/Broker Branch Manager

Our client is a specialty Managing General Agency seeking an experienced Branch Manager. The existing staff is tenured, experienced and developing new business revenue at a high level.  This position will support the commercial team's production goals and bring cohesion to the sales and marketing process.  As Branch Manager, you will be actively involved in business development.

Branch Manager Responsibilities:
Oversee all underwriting functions; improve processes and procedures to maximize time and minimize errors.
Assist experienced underwriters with maintaining a high level of productivity, achieving performance goals and expanding their marketing capabilities.
Individually, participate in the underwriting process through the management of key accounts.
Actively engage in marketing duties including meeting with agents, identifying new markets to attack and strengthening the relationship with the company's carriers.

Branch Manager Qualifications:
7-10 years of applicable property and casualty experience; prior management experience within underwriting, marketing or operations is required.
Additionally, prior wholesale brokerage or Managing General Agency employment experience is critical.
Ability to adjust underwriting processes and procedures; train and mentor underwriting staff; participate in the design and execution of marketing strategies; determine staffing needs and budgets.  
Familiarity with the retail agency base in TN and KY is particularly helpful but not required.
