Commercial Lines Underwriter - Atlanta, GA or Raleigh, NC

I"m working on a great commercial lines underwriting position with a terrific MGA that is looking for an underwriter in both Atlanta and Raleigh.  While they would prefer to find someone with an MGA underwriting background they are open to looking at someone that has carrier experience provided that they are comfortable stepping into a production underwriting role.  At the end of the day our client is looking for someone that has outgoing and professional personality that is comfortable actively calling on agencies both in person and on the phone.

Commercial Lines Underwriter

Our client is a multi-state Wholesale Broker/Managing General Agency with a great reputation in commercial program management.  An underwriter at the company is responsible for branding, building upon existing relationships and pursuing new business to grow the agency. These positions are a wonderful opportunity to blend traditional elements of desk underwriting with a forward thinking approach to production underwriting.  Success as an underwriter with this company sets you up for a great career in other areas of the company's leadership and marketing efforts.

Commercial Lines Underwriter Responsibilities:
Evaluate the performance and profitability of commercial insurance submissions from retail agents; core program areas include monoline or package policies with General Liability and commercial property; secondary and unique products like products liability, pollution, excess and umbrella can be included.
Make determinations on coverage, rates and special endorsements based on market conditions, underwriting guidelines and historical data (financial and claims reports) to build a profitable book of business.
Pursue marketing relationships in expansion territories; the Atlanta position will expand westward to do business with agents in Alabama; the Raleigh position will focus on Tennessee marketing.

Senior Production Underwriter Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
At least five (5) years of broad property and casualty underwriting experience; existing Southeast retail agency relationships are required whether that be previously from a production underwriting or commercial direct writer position or work as a member of a Managing General Agency or wholesale broker.
Ability to create and execute marketing plans that drive new business opportunities, brand the company in-state and in surrounding markets as well as take a broad approach to capturing a balanced amount of casualty and property business.
Some travel is required.
