Employee Benefits Consultant, Account Executive - Minneapolis, MN

Our client is a progressive insurance brokerage deeply rooted in its group benefits consulting platform. The firm has developed a very successful sales process in Minneapolis that attracts large corporate benefits accounts that starts with a few hundred employees to several thousand.  This position, Benefits Consultant, Account Executive, will be a major technical component of the agency’s client service team. It works directly alongside the producers as the quarterback for several points of the sales process that involve marketing and implementation.   A person assuming this role must be an experienced handler of sophisticated group medical plans working directly with the insured.

Benefits Consultant, Account Executive Responsibilities
  • Assigned a book of sophisticated, self-funded clients, you’ll handle a lot of the strategic plan design, marketing, negotiations and stewardship involved with client management.
  • Account analysis: You’ll be intimately familiar with cost trends, projections and drivers; opportunities to match services and plans to a client’s portfolio; reports on market changes and renewal strategies.
  • Accountable for the growth of the assigned book of business: acquisition of new business on existing accounts; customer satisfaction that leads to a high retention rate; develop and execute the bid/RFP/renewal plan.

Benefits Consultant, Account Executive Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree is highly preferred however equivalent work experience that shows progressive movement in duties and responsibilities will be considered.
  • At least five (5) years of group employee benefits insurance industry experience.  Always centered around the client service and account management process, this experience can come from working exclusively at a major group medical insurance carrier in underwriting or middle market account support.  The agency is also open to individuals with prior sales experience.  A producer who has always been very consultative and involved in the details of marketing, negotiations and plan design would do well taking on this lead role where personal new business origination isn’t required.
  • State life and health license is required.
  • Strong financial and analytical background; in one moment be able to quantify and interpret group medical and ancillary claims data and in the next be the lead point of contact for insureds resolving policy issues and handling renewal cases.
